The Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust have assured the public that they are "not overwhelmed" by the virus, but are appealing for people to follow government advice and stay home unless travelling for essential work or supplies.

Police in Pontefract were forced to issue a reminder about social distancing at the weekend, after large numbers of people gathered in Pontefract Park.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has also tested positive for the virus, has repeated calls for the public to practice social distancing. People should leave home only for essential trips, such as picking up food and medication, or for one form of exercise a day, he said.

Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."
