Council estate £2.5m improvement plans given go-ahead

A £2.5 million improvement scheme for a Pontefract council estate has been given the go-ahead.

Planning permission has been granted for Wakefield District Housing to create new off-street parking spaces, pedestrian pathways, dropped kerbs, and boundary walls, fencing and gates to the properties on Chequerfield.

The streets include Cromwell Crescent, De Lacy Terrace, Oliviers Mount, Fairfax Road And Harewood View.

A total of 115 homes will benefit from the scheme.

Sue Young, WDH’s executive director of investment, previously said: “We aim to create confident communities with high quality homes and neighbourhoods that our tenants want to continue to live in.
