Covid-19 trials centre in Wakefield given approval

A Covid-19 vaccine trials centre proposed near Wakefield city centre has been given the go-ahead.

The first floor office at Spectrum Community Heath CIC on Navigation Walk, off Doncaster Road, will be developed to help in the fight against the deadly disease.

A not-for-profit social enterprise, Spectrum delivers services on behalf of the NHS.

They said: “Initially, the intention is that the space will be used exclusively for trials of a vaccine against coronavirus. In the future, the intention is that the use as a vaccine testing facility will continue with a focus on finding vaccines for other illnesses.”

Wakefield Council’s planning department said that the change of use was acceptable and so approved the plans.

It is anticipated that more than 30 jobs will be created, with an additional 80 visitors a day to the site.

However, no extra parking will be provided.
