Coun Jacquie Speight, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: “I am happy that restrictions have been eased and that gyms and pools can reopen.

“There are some members who are raring to go and we look forward to having them back. Others, we are aware, are hesitant and we want them to come back with confidence. Therefore we are keeping membership fees frozen until they return or to December 2020 – whichever comes first.

“The leisure centre will be different. People’s favourite equipment may not be where they last left it. To make the premises Covid-19 Secure, we’ve moved things around to create a safe workout environment for members and staff.

“We look forward to having everyone back, in total confidence.”
