A healthcare assistant gave factory worker Masood a beard trim before leaving so that he looked dapper for the first visit from his wife in over two months.

Masood continues to recover at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, but hopes to return to his family home in Dewsbury soon.

A Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust spokesman said: "We are very pleased to share that our longest staying ICU patient has been discharged to a recovery ward after spending 63 days in ICU.

"Each day Masood's strength is building and when he's well enough to go home he's looking forward to spending time with his family, having some time to rest and being outside in the fresh air."

Masood began struggling to breathe while working at a biscuit factory back in April and he was admitted to the ICU at Pinderfields.

As his condition worsened doctors placed Masood on a ventilator and gave him a tracheostomy, which left him unable to speak for two months.

He was finally discharged on June 18 and continues his recovery at hospital today.
