It wasn’t until he retired that he was able to indulge his passion for creative writing. He visited around 75 primary schools throughout the north of England, at no charge to the schools, to do workshops with youngsters on creative writing.

He said: “There is joy and connection with the children as they talk through their ideas and writing, refining both as they became more confident.”

Frank published his first children’s fantasy adventure book in 2010.

Since then he has published 12 books for children (with three more finished and to be published this year), and six books for adults.

He said: “The adult books form the Jack series - based loosely on my life growing up in the coalfields in the West Riding around Normanton, Altofts, Castleford and Wakefield, and beyond into adulthood.

“I thought it fitting to launch the sixth instalment of the Jack books Carry On Jack, in my home town of Normanton.”

The event takes place this Saturday from 10am-noon in Normanton library. There will be refreshments and a chance to buy Frank’s latest book.
