Around 2,000 runners are expected to sign up for the 10k and the 1k mini run.

There are many elements to the event and in all areas they have a team of volunteers working with staff to deliver the event.

Director of fundraising Helen Knowles said: “From afternoon teas and craft fairs to sponsored walks and skydives, there’s something to suit everyone in our event calendar. All funds raised help us care for local families.”

Volunteers help set up and clear down, registration, marshalling, water stations, T-shirts, running the property tent, catering, signage, car parking . etc.

Their event sponsors, the Card Factory Foundation, provide a team of volunteers to help on the day as well as entering a team of runners in the 10k.

Without the help of the amazing volunteer team they would not be able to run the event, which was voted the best 10k in the north at the Let’s Do This challenge awards in 2019.

The Wakefield 10k, now in its 25th year is well known in the running calendar attracting lots of club runners, as well as more novice runners and younger runners taking part in the mini run.

Not everyone can commit to regular volunteering so supporting hospice fundraising events and community activities is a great way to be involved on an occasional basis.

Volunteers help with arrangements before, during and after events. This may be registering participants, setting up stalls, serving refreshments , litter picking and many more tasks needed to make a successful day for everyone.

The local community can come along to a great range of activities – they can bring along their competitive spirit to the hugely 10k run or just have a fun, family time while raising funds for patient care.

The volunteers are a vital support network to the hospice fundraising team and there is always a warm welcome for more to join.
