But with Tier 2 restrictions currently in place across the Wakefield district, some of the usual activities might not be an option. We've put together a list of 14 of the best half term activities across Wakefield and the Five Towns this October. Some attractions may need to be booked in advance.
1. National Coal Mining Museum
The National Coal Mining Museum has now reopend its Overground Experience, including the chance to chat with miners, meet pit ponies and let off some steam in the adventure playground. Admission to the museum is free, but all visitors will need to pre-book an arrival slot. Photo: Scott Merrylees
2. National Trust Nostell
Set in more than 300 acres of parkland, Nostell offers a splash of culture as well as the for a great half term adventure. The National Trust encourages walking and cyclic across the site. Parking should be booked in advance at nationaltrust.org.uk/nostell
3. Diggerland
Family theme park Diggerland promises fun for the whole family, with the chance to ride, drive and operate real diggers. The park is open throughout the half term holiday from 10am to 4pm. Photo: Scott Merrylees
4. Yorkshire Sculpture Park
One of the district's most popular attractions, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is located in the grounds of the historic Bretton Hall. As well as installations from some of the biggest names in sculpture, the park features more than 500 acres of parkland - perfect for a half term morning stroll.
