Wakefield Council’s ‘Step-Up’ employment and skills initiative is expanding and is holding its first Jobs and Careers event.

​The event, which will give people the opportunity to meet local employers, find out about careers, training and learning skills, is on March 4 from 1pm -4pm at Kellingley Social Club in Knottingley.

Also available will be expert advice on starting and running a business, as well as the chance to meet advisors from the Department of Work and Pensions and Citizens Advice Bureau.

Step Up is the council’s initiative that helps people to find work, improve their skills or make a career change.

It provides access to training for those in work to improve their future jobs prospects and supports employers to secure the skilled workforce they need for future growth and sustainability.

Coun Darren Byford, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration said: “Step-Up is a fantastic programme which has already supported more than 100 people in their quest to find work, improve their skills and to look forward for a better future for themselves and their families.

“This is great opportunity to learn more and I’d encourage everyone to come along – they are guaranteed a warm welcome and access to information and support that can make a real difference to people’s lives."

St George’s Community Centre – Lupset

St Mary’s Community Centre – Pontefract

St Swithen’s Community Centre – Eastmoor

Airedale Library – Castleford

Kingsley and Fitzwilliam - Hemsworth

Kellingley Club – Knottingley

An advisor will also be available in all four of the district’s job centres in Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract and Hemsworth.
