Help families in need across the Wakefield district this Christmas

Readers have stepped up to support the Christmas Hamper Appeal 2020, run by the Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry and The Community Awareness Programme (CAP) and sponsored by the Express.

Less than a fortnight after launching the appeal to support families in need and already the first hampers and financial donations are coming in.

This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the job of putting together both the appeal and the practical work of assembling and distributing hampers to people across the district will be extremely difficult. Social distancing requirements and all the restrictions due to lockdown will make every step more difficult and challenging.

However, with the help and generosity of Express readers, organisers are determined to make this another successful appeal so that families can have a helping hand over the festive season and school Christmas holidays.

We are asking primarily for donations of money and complete hampers. While donations of food will be very gratefully received it would be more helpful if we could get finished hampers so that handling and packing are kept to a minimum.

The contents required for a full hamper are shown at the right hand side. Additional contents are very welcome – but please ensure that the items below are included.

Packing and collection of finished hampers needs to be completed before the end of November.

Drop into the CAP Centre on Market Street or call manager Kevin Dobson on 01924 381119 to donate.
