Help families in need by donating to Wakefield’s Christmas Hamper Appeal 2020

The Express-backed Christmas Hamper Appeal, run by the Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry and the Community Awareness Programme (CAP), is powering ahead despite a global pandemic and social distancing requirements.

Following the last two articles in the Pontefract and Castleford Express and the Wakefield Express, CAP on Market Street in Wakefield has received a constant stream of finished hampers and food/money to support the appeal.

Rotary members and their friends have stepped in to help by donating even more finished hampers, and will also pack all the donated food and distribute the hampers to the four Children First Hubs at the end of the month. Staff at the hubs will then give them out to pensioners and families in need in the Wakefield area.

In an appeal first, some of the donated hampers have already been delivered to pensioners in the district to help them in their planning for the festive season.

However, we are not finished yet. We still need readers and businesses to donate more hampers and more food if we are to achieve our aim of helping as many families as possible this year.

So please – if you are able to, consider donating a hamper in support of a local family.

All food donations, as well as financial contributions will also be gratefully received.

They should all be dropped off at the CAP Centre on Market Street in Wakefield.

The centre manager Kevin Dobson will be really pleased to take anything you can give. He can be contacted on 01924 381119.
