The pair have been nesting in the Wakefield Cathedral spire for almost a decade, and have now welcomed their first two chicks of the season.

The first chick was spotted shortly before 9pm yesterday (Wednesday) and a second chick arrived early this morning.

A further two eggs remain, and are expected to hatch in the coming days.

The birds have attracted a global audience of followers, thanks to a livestream of their nest, which is broadcast continually on YouTube.

Last year, nearly a million people in 57 countries around the world spent a total of 4.6 million minutes watching the falcons.

The Wakefield Peregrine Project began in 2012, when a group from the city's naturalists' society approached officials at Wakefield Cathedral about putting up a nesting box on the spire, following several sightings of the rare falcons.
