Millions to be spent on council homes in Pontefract

Wakefield District Housing (WDH) is seeking planning permission for external alterations - to create new off-street parking spaces, pedestrian pathways, dropped kerbs, and boundary walls, fencing and gates to the properties on Chequerfield.

With 115 homes pencilled in to benefit, WDH says it will be spending around £2.5 million on the changes, if they are given planning permission.

The housing company says it follows recent roofing works that were completed to homes in Chequerfield and will help to reduce parking on the streets and making the area a more appealing place to live.

Sue Young, WDH’s executive director of investment, said: “We aim to create confident communities with high quality homes and neighbourhoods that our tenants want to continue to live in.

“By investing in our current properties and providing improvements such as these, we are making our homes and estates more attractive, sustainable, safe places to live, improving the area for the whole community.”

The work is earmarked for Cromwell Crescent, but other streets pencilled into the plans include De Lacy Terrace, Oliviers Mount, Fairfax Road And Harewood View.

A decision on the plans will be made by Wakefield Council’s planning department at a later date.

WDH is already spending millions of pounds on several other projects in the district, including £2.5 million on new homes on Marshall Drive in South Elmsall, and a £6.4 million development on Sowgate Lane in Knottingley, which could see 43 affordable homes being built.
