As Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 continues its programme of 366 things to do in the Wakefield district, there’s lots going on throughout February.
Our Year is a year-long programme of spectacles, unique festivals, major events and community-led activities that will celebrate all that the Wakefield district has to offer from art, heritage, sport and music to food and drink.
And in February, there’s something for everyone, whether it’s visiting the popular Rhubarb Festival, a bike ride at Nostell or learning all about food through time in Pontefract.
When: February 20 at 7:30pm. Tender, funny and defiantly hopeful, The Light House is a real-life story of falling in love and staying in love, even when the lights go out and you’re lost in the dark. It’s a love letter to life. This performance takes place at Queen’s Mill, Castleford and was supported with a Culture Grant by Wakefield Council. Photo: Wakefield Council/Anthony Robling
6. 180 years of Eastmoor at St Swithuns Community Centre
When: February 26 to March 6. Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in Eastmoor during the Victorian period, or what the Eastmoor council estate was like when it was first built? Wakefield residents joined Harrison Architectural Heritage in a series of research workshops and interviews in autumn 2023, to discover the stories of Eastmoor’s people and their houses over the last 180 years. This exhibition showcases the findings of that community research project. Told through maps, photographs, architectural drawings and the voices of past and present residents. Photo: Google
