In a statement on the event's website, organisers said they had decided to postpone the event until they could "assure the safety of every runner, marshal, volunteer and first aid worker".
The run had been scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 4, but will now be held on an undecided future date.

On the website, organisers said: "We have made the decision to postpone of the 2020 Pontefract Half Marathon. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic mean it is not possible to hold the event as planned this year.
"We have waited as long as possible to give this years half marathon every chance to take place. However, with under 3 months to the event, we have decided the best course of action would be to hold the event on a later date.
"Even though the situation is improving we don’t feel it would be safe to do so yet and only want to hold the event when we can assure the safety of every runner, marshal, volunteer and first aid worker.
