George Rowland Tucker runs Tuckers Funfairs, which is currently in operation in the car park of the Wakefield Trinity Stadium on Doncaster Road, Wakefield.

Staff at the fair made the decision to close for several hours on Saturday afternoon as a "mark of respect" during funeral of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Mr Tucker later issued an apology to those who were confused by the closure, but maintained that it had been the right thing to do.

And his actions have been widely praised by the people of Wakefield, with dozens taking to social media to leave comments in support of Tuckers Funfairs.

Lucas Arnold said: "Good on ya, shame others didn't think to close and show respect!! You have no need to apologise. WELL DONE TUCKERS."

Jane Colley wrote: "Closing out of respect is very admirable, those who complain clearly have no manners or respect. I support you 100%."

And Vicky Martindale said: "Cant do with moaning folk. They put it on their Facebook page so it wasn't like they didn't warn people. Everyone doesn't have Facebook but not their fault. Good on em I say."

Nicci Lufc Carrington said: "Well done Tuckers, shame more didn't follow your actions."

Wendy Nash said: "Good on Tuckers putting respect before making a few quid."

Steve Smith wrote: "Good for Tuckers showing respect like most of the nation did."
