Blueprints have been submitted for the 28 homes on the land adjoining Holyrood House care home on Spawd Bone Lane in Knottingley.

The care home sits on land once occupied by the Green Bottle pub, with the land proposed for the new homes once occupied by industrial and commercial units. The site is owned by Crown Care Group.

A statement with the proposals sent to Wakefield Council’s planning department reads: “The proposal is for a new 28 unit sheltered housing building.

“This is to be linked, in terms of development of the site, with the aforementioned constructed care home with the entire scheme creating jobs for 100 people on a permanent and part time basis.

“The location of the site is within large areas of residential housing and makes it ideal for the development of sheltered housing, along with the existing care home.

“An opportunity will exist for prospective residents to be attracted from the immediate vicinity, thereby maintaining close relationships with family and friends.”

The plans include 18 one bedroom and 10 two-bedroom flats. They are all part of one four-storey L-shaped building, set back from the road.

It would be fully designed for wheelchair users and will cater for those who are mobile elderly or partially disabled, with lifts to all floors.

The statement adds: “The site is very well located, especially coupled with the successful care home.

“The overall proposal vastly improves the redundant site and offers employment to the local community.”
