Wakefield Council launches new drug treatment service for adults and children

Wakefield Council has commissioned a new drug and alcohol service that brings together services for both adults and young people for the first time in the district.

The combined service, which opened on July 1, offers information, advice, medical treatment and support to people with concerns about their use of drugs and alcohol.

It is run by Turning Point, which previously managed the adult drug and alcohol service.

The council said the service is friendly, accessible and welcoming, to encourage anyone who is experiencing difficulties to get in touch and seek help.

Coun Faith Heptinstall, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing at Wakefield Council, said: “Many people experience difficult times in their lives – we fully recognise this – and we want to ensure that people in our district know if they turn to us for help, they will not be judged and will receive the help they need to move forward in a positive direction in their lives.”

The council said an all age service it is better placed to work with parents and their children.
