Planning permission has been granted to demolish the existing block of one-bedroom flats accessed via Greenhill Road to make way for the new development.

The site had been used as an old persons’ home but is now empty.

The site, which sits opposite the Trinity Methodist Church on Stanley Road, will see 14 two and three-bedroom family homes with off-street parking built on the 0.3 hectare piece of lan once it is cleared.

Of these, 10 will be available through classed affordable rent schemes with the remaining four available for sale with shared ownership with WDH.

The new cul-de-sac will be accessed via Greenhill Road.

Planning permission for the brand new homes was granted only recently and with approval for demolition of the existing building now being given the green light, it means there are no further barriers to delay the development.

It is expected that work will begin later in the summer and take around 12 months to complete.

Sue Young, WDH’s executive director of investment, said: “Development and providing high-quality homes a key part of our business.

“It is a pleasure to be able to continue to provide new homes for our customers across the district, both for rent and for sale with shared ownership thanks to the £520 million funding deal we have recently secured to help us to do this.

“This scheme will enhance the area, attracting more families and professionals and offers a range of modern living options for prospective customers and tenants close to Wakefield city centre and its excellent transport links.”
