The hospice invited more than 200 people to form a giant hug around their Aberford Road home on Saturday.

Helen Knowles, director of income generation, said: “The hug is part of a number of events to mark our 30th anniversary celebrations, and holding it so close to Valentine’s Day was perfect as it meant people were able to show their love for Wakefield Hospice.

“We were overwhelmed by the response and are exceptionally grateful to everyone who took part and showed their support. For us it really showed what the hospice means to the local community and how much they value the support and care it provides.”

The hospice has also unveiled new branding to mark their anniversary, which depicts a tree with eight leaves, pays tribute to the eight nursing sisters who ‘planted the seed’ of building a hospice in Wakefield.
