Jay said: “I wrote the song when I was watching all the tributes to Sir Captain Tom on the BBC and ITV.

“I managed to get it written down in around 15 minutes, many people will say I’ve rushed in putting it out there.

“But I thought long and hard about every single lyric, each part of the song means something.

“He inspired the world to do their bit for the NHS, everyone came out of the woodwork wanting to help raise funds after the word of his walking got around.”

The song serves as a reminder of the life and times of Sir Captain Tom, the former British Army officer who raised money for the NHS in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the first lockdown of 2020.

Before the recording process began, Phillip Reames, a producer from South kirkby offered to help put the charity single together through his record label, ‘Pekopublico’.

Donna Moody was Jay’s first pick for the duo, as he’s always admired her dedication to charity work as well as her performance ability.

Jay hopes to raise as much money as possible for the Captain Tom foundation, in the lead up to the former war veteran’s funeral, which will take place on Saturday, February 27.

Jay said: “I recorded my part in my studio in Mirfield and Phil Reames put the track together and mixed it for me.

“Everything I wrote is from the heart - this is not something I did for my own greed or self gain, I did this personally to serve the memory of Sir Captain Tom,

“The more money we can raise in his name, the better, so I hope people will purchase the song and give it a listen.

“I just wanted to do something to show my appreciation for the person Sir Captain Tom was - for a man of his age to go out and change the world is amazing.”
