Pharmacies open on bank holiday Monday in Wakefield district

NHS Wakefield is urging people to make use of pharmacies, GPs and the NHS 111 service over the bank holiday weekend.

It is advising people that Pinderfields Hospital A&E is for life-threatening situations.

Patients can access medical advice through their normal GP practice phone number between 9am and 3pm through the GP Care Wakefield scheme, whilst NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day.

Wakefield’s walk-in centre at King Street will be open from 10am until 10pm daily and people needing urgent treatment for non-life threatening conditions can go to Pontefract Urgent Treatment Centre.

Pharmacies open on bank holiday Monday in the district are:

ASDA at Asdale Road, Wakefield (9am-6pm)

Boots on Upper Kirkgate (9.30am-4.30pm)

Lloyds Pharmacy in Trinity Walk (9am-7pm)

ASDA at Leeds Road, Glasshoughton (9am-6pm)

Boots at Beastfair, Pontefract (10am-4pm)

Tesco Pharmacy, Market Street, Hemsworth (9am-6pm)

Dr Phillip Earnshaw, Chair of the NHS Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “People only need to go to Pinderfields A&E or dial 999 for significant accidents, or serious medical conditions.

“If you have an urgent medical need that is not life-threatening, you’ll often be seen faster by accessing a different NHS service, such as the King Street Walk-in Centre, out-of-hours GP appointments or Pontefract Urgent Treatment Centre.

“People only need to know three numbers – that’s the number for their own GP practice, 111 if they are unsure where to go and 999 for absolute emergencies."
