Phones 4U stores in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford closed permanently

Administrators for Phones 4U have revealed that stores in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford will be closed for good.

PWC has managed to save 2,000 jobs by transferring 140 standalone stores to Vodafone, 58 to EE and 160 concessions to Dixons Carphone. But 362 stores will be closed, including the Phones 4U shops in the Ridings Shopping Centre and on Teall Way, both in Wakefield, and Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre in Castleford and Market Place in Pontefract.

A total of 1,679 staff will be made redundant, with a further 720 being kept on to help the stores wind down.

Phones 4U, which is owned by BC Partners, announced that it would go into administration last Sunday.

It said the decision was made after network operator EE decided not to renew its current contract, leaving Phones 4U without any network partners following a decision by Vodafone to not renew its contract earlier this month.

The company said mobile contracts already bought through Phones 4U will remain unaffected and the networks will continue to provide mobile services to these customers.

Anyone who has questions about their contract, orders or insurance should call the customer service team on 0844 8712253.
