It is not every day that Darth Vader and The Stig can be seen wandering in the city centre while taking a look at Del Boy's three wheeler and the A-Team van.

Around 10,000 people turned out to enjoy the show, which also included displays in The Ridings and Trinity Walk shopping centres.

The event was organised by Paul Copley and Phil Pickard with support from Wakefield Business Improvement District (BID), to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and bring visitors into the city.

Mr Copley said: “It’s been a labour of love with many days and nights spent putting this event together following on from huge success of last year’s show to make this year even bigger and better.

“It was very hard work to bring it all together, but to see the crowds of people all with smiles on their faces, and to feel a genuine happy, family atmosphere from people of all walks of life enjoying a free day out, made it all worthwhile.”

The city’s historic Wood Street was temporarily renamed “Hollywood Street”, playing home to film and TV vehicles including the A-Team van, Kitt from Knight Rider, Lightening McQueen and Del Trotter’s famous three wheel yellow van.

Cars from every decade were on display including a 1920s Rolls Royce and a modern Maclaren super car.

Cosplay stars including Star Wars characters, Judge Dredd, The Stig, Batman and Wonderwoman were also on patrol, posing for photographs.

Elizabeth Murphy, Wakefield BID Manager, said: “With the exception of the Tour de Yorkshire start in 2015, we don’t think the city centre has attracted this many people in one day in the past decade.

“The city was buzzing with thousands of happy, smiling people eating, drinking and taking pictures.

“The atmosphere and general vibe was fabulous and it’s not every day you turn onto Wood Street to be greeted by Darth Vader and a replica car from Transformers.

“The impact this event has had on business is massive and shows what the city centre of Wakefield can do when we join forces to put on an event that the public will flock to in their thousands.

“This is just the start – we all have big plans for Wakefield.”
