Developer Linden Homes North submitted an application to build the new estate just off Cobblers Lane in Pontefract.

Campaigners feared an increase in traffic could put the safety of pupils at nearby Holy Family and St Michael’s and Cobblers Lane primary schools at risk.

But Wakefield Council’s planning and highways committee approved the proposals at a meeting on Thursday.

The developer said 30 per cent of the properties will be affordable homes.

And it will contribute £73,200 to help improve junctions in Pontefract.

A further £391,748 would be donated to tackle the shortage of childcare, primary and secondary schools places in the area.
