Playground to undergo £46k renovation

And the youngsters who will use it are having their say on the new equipment which could be installed there.

Wakefield Council is proposing to transform the Three Lane Ends play area in Castleford.

Plans for the Jin Whin Hill site include creating a new infant area with swings, a slide, spinner, rocker and play unit.

The play park could also have an area for older children aged up to 12, with a climbing frame, ball games area, basket ball hoops and targets.

Children from the nearby Three Lane Ends Community Primary School were shown the plans earlier this week.

Coun Peter Box, Wakefield Council leader and Altofts and Whitwood councillor visited the school so pupils could tell him what they wanted to see in the new playground.

Year 5 class teacher James Turner said around 90 pupils were keen to share their views.

He said: “The children enjoyed being able to hear about the ideas for the new park.

“Some of them said they would like to see a skate park as well but overall there was a positive response and the children liked the sound of the plans.”

Coun Box said: “We intend this to be a fantastic new place for children and I want them to be involved in helping decide what will be in their new play area. Local councillors saw that play area desperately needed updating and after consulting with the community we knew it was also a priority for local people.

“We have secured the funding and now, with the help from our children, we will create a great new play place at Three Lane Ends.”
