Police appeal after two men found with head injuries in South Elmsall

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were found with head injuries following a disturbance in South Elmsall.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the incident today and would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard a disturbance or suspicious behaviour in the Minsthorpe Lane and Minsthorpe Vale area in South Elmsall between 11.30pm and 12am yesterday evening (Tuesday).

Emergency Services were called to Minsthorpe Lane just before midnight on Tuesday after two men aged 48 and 23 were found with head injuries by residents.

Both were taken to Leeds General Infirmary where the 23-year-old is in a serious condition.

The men, who are a Polish and father and son, had been seen in the local area during the day and in the park in the evening.

Officers are investigating whether they may have been involved in a disturbance prior to being found, and just how they came to sustain their injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Thomas of Protective Services (Crime) who is leading the enquiry said: “We are investigating the circumstances of just what took place in this incident and are appealing for witnesses.

“I am particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen these men in the area of Minsthorpe Lane and Minsthorpe Vale, and witnessed or heard any disturbances prior to them being found.

“We are also keen to speak to a man seen on a motorcycle on Minsthorpe Lane by witnesses near to where the men were found and I would ask this individual to come forward.”

DCI Thomas added: “This is clearly a serious and also unusual incident for the South Elmsall area and local NPT officers are carrying out patrols to reassure residents today.

“I would ask anyone who has information to contact Wakefield CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
