TWO cannabis farms were shut down by police in the Five Towns last week.

Officers from Pontefract and Knottingley neighbourhood policing team (NPT) swooped on a drugs’ dens on Queen’s Square in Pontefract and Knottingley’s Simpson’s Lane last Thursday.

Police recovered and destroyed 28 cannabis plants and arrested a 43-year-old man and a 44-year-old man on suspicion of drug-related offences.

They have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Sgt Lis Walker, of the NPT, said “This success is as a direct result of community intelligence, local people telling us about their concerns and the police responding positively and quickly to combat offenders.”

The next day, officers from Castleford NPT executed a drugs’ warrant at an address in Half Acres and recovered a quantity of cannabis.

A man in his 30s received a caution for possession of a controlled substance.

Sgt Paul Coates said “This warrant was obtained after receiving information from members of the local community who are sick and tired of drug dealing in their area.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
