Cameron and Osborne visit Wakefield Coca Cola plant

The Prime Minister and chancellor of the exchequer visited Coca Cola’s Wakefield bottling plant today.

David Cameron and George Osborne were there as the company announced £13m pounds of investment in the site at Wakefield 41 Industrial Estate.

Coca Cola Enterprises (CCE) is building a new production line at the plant, where it has invested £100m over the past five years.

The company is also installing a heat and power system which will reduce carbon emissions by 1,500 tonnes a year.

Mr Cameron said: “I’m delighted that Coca-Cola Enterprises is investing £13m in new technology at its Wakefield site.

“This further boost to CCE’s Wakefield plant, the largest of its kind in Europe, shows the huge potential that Yorkshire has to attract global investment and is a big vote of confidence in our long term economic plan.”

Mr Osborne also set out plans to build a new high-speed rail link between Leeds and Manchester to boost the regional economy.

And in a speech in Manchester earlier this morning, he promised financial support for cities which want to have London-style elected mayors.
