Council wins waste management award

The council and waste partner Shanks, who run tips across the district, achieved the highest accolade in the Design of a Waste Management Facility category for the layout of the recycling centre on Calder Vale Road, in Wakefield.

Coun Maureen Cummings, cabinet member for environment and communities said: “This is excellent news and a proud moment for Wakefield.

“We work hard to provide top quality facilities for residents and this has now been nationally recognised by this award.”

Peter Eglinton, Managing Director of Shanks’ UK municipal division, said: “We are delighted to be recognised for the design of the Calder Vale Road site, which is credit to the hard work of the project team and an exciting milestone in our strategy to make more from waste.”
