Wakefield’s Armed Forces Day returns

The Armed Forces Day, organised by Wakefield Council in conjunction with the National Trust-run stately home, will take place on Sunday, June 22.

It will run from 10am to 4pm and entertainment will include the Royal Signals White Helmets stunt motorcyclists and a spitfire will be on display.

There will also be a farmers market, a falconry display, a craft fair, The Ravens parachute display team, a climbing wall and an inflatable obstacle course.

Last year, more than 8,000 people enjoyed the Armed Forces Day event and showed their support for serving and veteran forces’members and their families.

Coun Sandra Pickin, Wakefield Council’s armed forces champion, said: “Public support for the event has been overwhelming and it’s fantastic that people want to pay tribute to the armed forces in this way.”

There will be a flag raising ceremony to start the event at 10am.

Admission is free but there is a £3 charge for parking.

Armed Forces Day 2014 is on Saturday, June 28.

The event at Nostell Priory is just one of a number held across the country to raise public awareness of the contribution made by those who serve and have served in the forces.
