A total of 11,407 people left the Wakefield district for a new life elsewhere in the UK in the same 12-month period, the Office for National Statistics figures show.
From Scotland to Sheffield, here are the places draining the most people from Wakefield.
1. Leeds
The most common place people left the area for was Leeds, with 2,088 departures in the year to June 2019.
2. Kirklees

3. Barnsley
The next most common place people left the area for was Barnsley, with 1,125 departures in the year to June 2019. A large market town, Barnsley is just over the border from the Wakefield district, and includes villages such as Wombwell, Grimethorpe, Penistone and Tankersley
4. Selby
