Pontefract Collieries dropped into the bottom three following a late collapse that saw them lose out to title contenders Cleethorpes Town in the Premier Division of the Toolstation NCE League.

Colls were looking good for a valuable away point as they held their third-placed opponents goalless for the first half and 25 minutes into the second.

But Daniel Trott put the hosts ahead with 20 minutes to play and within two minutes had struck again.

Any hopes of a Ponte comeback were dashed when Caine Winfarah made it 3-0 on 81 minutes and the same player struck again in the final minute to complete Colls’ misery.

It was their 12th defeat in their last 15 league matches and dropped them into the relegation zone with three teams going down this year.

Colls are looking to move up the table in a home game with fourth from bottom Brigg Town tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

It is a real six-pointer with Brigg going into the game just one point above Collieries, but having played two more games.

Another home match follows this Saturday when Ponte face fourth-placed Bridlington Town (3pm).

Pontefract are also in action next Wednesday when they are away to mid-table Maltby Main.

Three players have left Colls to join fellow NCE League sides this month.

Iwan Heeley has joined Division One promotion contenders AFC Emley while Josh Wright has left for first division strugglers Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Brad Kerr has signed for Premier Division Retford United.

They have recently brought in Liam Radford from Nostell MW and Ben Walker, from Parkgate.
