Pontefract and Castleford Express or Castleford and Pontefract Express? - have your say

We know you want more local news – but is this the way to make it happen?

Readers may recall that some time ago, in the Express Comment on the letters pages, I mentioned that the team here had been debating various options to progress the Pontefract & Castleford Express.

Now we want to hear your feedback about one of these proposals so we can make the right call.

The newspaper represents the Five Towns area, and finances dictate that we only have a certain number of pages to play with each week.

However, we do have the ability to create a minimum of two additional ‘change pages’ in the paper that are dedicated to grass roots coverage of either Castleford or Pontefract.

This means that if you buy your Pontefract & Castleford Express you’ll get two extra pages of Pontefract (and surrounding area) news, while if you buy a newly-rebranded Castleford & Pontefract Express those pages will contain Castleford (and surrounding area) coverage.

If readers support the idea we’ll launch it for an eight-week trial period and if we sell more copies we’ll continue to dedicate the extra resources to it.

What we want to know from you at this stage is whether you think it’s a good idea and what kind of extra content you’d like to see – after all it’s your paper.

We’d also like to invite anyone who would want to contribute to the new editions to get in touch with us, especially if you’re passionate about the area you live in.

I realise that these editions don’t deliver anything directly for those of you living in Featherstone and Knottingley, but who knows – if this venture is a success we could even look to produce further dedicated editions in time.

Please do take a moment to send us your views and I’ll report back to you all in due course about the feedback we received.
