The concert, organised by Wakefield Council, will include a performance of the Star Wars theme.

It will start at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm.

The picnic event, organised by the council and Pontefract Heritage Group, will run from 11am until 4pm.

Coun Les Shaw, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture and sport, said: “This will be a great weekend for Pontefract and the proms programme looks really entertaining.

“I’d encourage people to get their tickets and come along.

“The picnic is also a great opportunity for families to get together, relax and have fun in a beautiful setting.

“The picnic event gives us an opportunity to work with the council to promote the town and district’s jewel in the heritage crown.”

Tickets bought in advance cost £6 for adults and £4 for children.
