Leeds Crown Court heard Hoseini, 20, had developed an obsession with the victim after they became friends.

Before the incident, which took place in July last year, Hoseini had called some of the woman’s relatives to tell them he loved her.

The attempted rape took place during a party at Hoseini’s home in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, after he grew jealous when another man showed her attention.

Hoseini attacked the man before attempting to rape the woman in a bedroom.

Caroline Wiggin, prosecuting, said the victim had suffered from stress, panic attacks and weight loss since the incident.

She was also left frightened to go out of her home and was constantly looking over her shoulder through fear of Hoseini attacking her again.

She said: “This particular victim trusted this defendant and went voluntarily to his home.”

The court heard Hoseini was released on bail after being arrested over the attack and then went and broke into a house.

He pleaded guilty to attempted rape and burglary.

A pre-sentence report described how Hoseini spoke of having a “sense of entitlement” to act on the feelings he had and that there were two types of women, “good girls and bad girls”.

The report concluded that Hoseini “shows levels of narrow-mindedness with obsessive traits”.

Judge Penelope Belcher jailed Hoseini for six years and 19 weeks.

She told him: “You repeatedly called members of her family telling her that you loved her.

“If you truly loved this girl you would not have attempted to rape her.”
