The event - which raises money for Cancer Research UK - will take place on Sunday, July 19 and include a 10k and 5k route.

Last year, 1,930 women took part in the race and raised £98,500 but organisers are hoping to raise more than £100,000 at this weekend’s event.

Sarah Threadgall, event manager for Race for Life, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life in Pontefract.

“But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible.”

The Race for Life, run in partnership with Tesco, raises millions of pounds every year to help fund life-saving research into cancer.

Mrs Threadgall said: “Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast.

“You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like. Because these events are all about the feel-good factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.

“Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not.

“The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Pontefract to help make 2015 our best year yet.”

Registration costs £14.99 for adults and £10 for children. The deadline for entries is Friday, July 17.
