Coun David Dagger, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for transport and highways, said: “Throughout this scheme we have done our best to keep disruption to a minimum, not just to traffic but also to local businesses and residents.

“As the contractor starts the final phase we are determined that they continue to try and lessen the impact.

“The very nature of resurfacing work means that road closures will be inevitable but we have instructed the contractor to work during the evenings so that the disruption is reduced.

“Although this means the resurfacing will be done over a longer period it will protect motorists from lengthy delays during peak times and help us be a good neighbour to local business and residents.”

Contractors will work on each section of the junction separately and diversions will be in place via other routes.

Exact dates and times of closures are yet to be confirmed by the contractor and the council.

Coun Dagger said: “Unfortunately, the project has taken longer than we were initially advised by the contractor, but we are now at the final stage and I would like to thank everyone for their patience.

“The contractors have confirmed they expect all the work be completed by early December, at the latest and we will be closely monitoring their progress to ensure this deadline is met.”
