Power cut leaves almost 2,000 Castleford homes in the dark

Northern Powergrid said they had been made aware of an unexpected power cut in the WF10 and WF13 areas.

An estimated 1,895 properties are affected.

In a statement, the company said: "Hi to all our customers in WF10 and WF13, there is an unexpected power cut affecting 1895 properties in your area.

"For this type of power cut we normally restore power to 90% of our customers in about 90 minutes.

"We currently estimate your power will be back on by 10:45."

A map on the company's website shows the majority of affected properties are in Airedale, with a few homes in Dewsbury also affected as part of the incident.

Around 90 homes in Pontefract are also without power this morning, following a problem with the electricity cable in the area last night.
