Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “Thornes Bonfire is always popular and a great night out for everyone.

“I’m sure the display will be as spectacular and as impressive as previous years have been. I hope everyone who joins us has a great time and most importantly stays safe.”

There will also be a competition for the best Guy Fawkes on stage at 7.30pm with prizes for successful entries.

There will be no parking available at Thornes Park Stadium or at Wakefield College.

Visitors are asked not to bring along alcohol, Chinese lanterns or their own fireworks or sparklers.
