The New Albion landlords Paul Garner and Crissie Miller have recently welcomed son Louie into the world.

The couple took of the tenancy of the Everards owned pub in January and have fallen in love with the pub and the area.

Mr Garner, who moved here after running a pub in Loughborough, said: “It’s a nice little village pub, we love it. We have now got a little lad, Louie. He is 12-weeks old and he’s a Yorkshireman.”

The family have set about putting their own stamp on the Flanshaw Lane pub.

The pub boasts five real ales and a wide drinks selection for the non-ale drinker, like wine, cider, lager, soft drinks and spirits.

Food is offered six days a week and chef Paul is in charge of the grub.

But he is keen not to go down the gastro pub route.

He said: “We’re keeping it as a locals’ pub. Its main focus is on real ale. We are a pub that does a bit of food. We don’t want to go full blown food. We’ve got a telly now, but we don’t do football, pool or darts. We are like the quiet alternative.”

The couple initially signed up to run the pub for three years, but Mr Garner said they were already in talks about signing for three more.

Mr Garner said: “The pub is a good part of the community and busy with locals and visitors. The pub looks nice. In the summer it was a haven with flowers, which are tended for by my dad Barry. Inside, The New Albion is clean, comfortable and has a fantastic atmosphere.”
