A series of public exhibitions on plans to build a £135m development, including a new Castleford Tigers stadium, will start next week.

The Lateral Property Group announced its intention to build a food store, petrol station, high-quality shops, the stadium and a country park on land off the M62 junction 32 at Glass Houghton a fortnight ago.

The first exhibition will take place at the Glass Houghton Centre, Leeds Road, from 3pm to 7.30pm on Friday, April 4. There will also be events at the Five Towns Centre, Welbeck Street, Castleford, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, April 5, and at St Giles’ Church, Market Place, Pontefract, from 12.30pm to 5pm on Monday, April 7.

People will be able to view full details of the proposal, which would create up to 2,000 jobs. It is expected that a planning application for the development – including highways improvements, with a new junction off Park Road – could be submitted during the summer. If permission is granted, the development could open in 2017.

Philip Lunn, managing director of Lateral Property Group, said: “These are very important proposals for the Five Towns and we are now in a position to discuss the plans with the local community. We are holding a series of public exhibitions and will have a full team of people available at each one to answer any questions which may arise.

“In order to enable as many people as possible to attend, the public exhibitions will take place on three separate days in different locations. Wherever possible we will look to incorporate community comments and suggestions into the scheme.”
