Pudsey Bear from BBC’s Children in Need pays a visit

Schoolchildren in Normanton raised money for charity and received a visit from Pudsey Bear as part of the BBC’s Children in Need campaign.

Pupils at Lee Brigg Infant School, Freeston Academy and Normanton Common Academy were among those across the country to take part in charity events and meet the star of the campaign.

Organiser Helen Pountney from the Castleford branch of Halifax, which sponsors Children in Need, said: “I can’t talk highly enough about how good it was – the fundraising was out of this world.

“Pudsey was shattered by the time he got home.”

Normanton Common held a football tournament and penalty shootout, Freeston baked and sold cakes, and Lee Brigg opened its fete and hosted stalls – all as part of Children in Need’s Champions of Change programme, which provides schools with fundraising packs and education support.

Normanton Common headteacher Glyn Bishop said: “We’ve really enjoyed getting behind BBC Children in Need this year and putting our Champions of Change resources to good use.

“Our pupils were so excited about the opportunity to ‘own’ the fundraising activities and decided to use sport as a key means of fundraising.”

Last year Children in Need £32.6m for charities and the television broadcast was watched by around 8.3m people.
