A dance troupe from Allerton Bywater’s Brigshaw High School has battled through to the national final of the ‘Great Big Dance Off’.

The pupils saw off fierce competition to represent Yorkshire at the event.

The school entered two groups of dancers into the national dance competition for primary and secondary schools.

They performed against 28 other schools at the Yorkshire regional heat at Leeds Town Hall last month.

PE teacher Heather Shields said: “I am delighted our pupils are now through to the national finals.

“This is a fantastic achievement for our school to be representing Yorkshire at such a high level.”

One of the teams qualified and the other group came a respectable ninth.

The winning group, which consists of girls from year seven through to year nine, was choreographed by year ten student Elle Anderson.

The other group just missed out on a place to compete against schools from across the UK in the final.

Miss Shields added: “The school is very proud of them and how far they have got in the competition.

“We almost had two groups through as our second group managed a very successful ninth place.

“Well done to all of our pupils who competed.”

The ‘Great Big Dance Off’ national schools competition final will be held in Oxford on Tuesday, June 10.
