THEATRE lovers are off to see the wizard next week as Dorothy and her magic slippers blast into town.
Students from St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School will be bringing the Emerald City to Featherstone as part of their annual stage show.
This year’s production of The Wiz will see youngsters bring much-loved characters such as the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Lion to life from Monday February 6 to Thursday February 9.
Rob Clarke, head of expressive arts at the school, said: “We went to see The Wiz last year at Leeds Playhouse and we were just inspired by the performance.
“It’s an exciting show to do – it’s something a little bit different and the children are practising hard in preparation. We’re in for a really fantastic show.”
Star players include 17-year-old Sanna Saidy as the wizard, Chelsea Mitchell, 14, as Dorothy, 16-year-old Keely Van Der Wal as the Tin Man and Bradley Taylor, 13, as the Scarecrow.
More than 50 budding thespians, lighting, sound and stage technicians are taking part in the production.
Mr Clarke said: “Last year we did We Will Rock You so we’re trying to build on the success of that show and we hope The Wiz will continue our reputation for producing professional high school shows.”
The final night has already sold out but tickets are still available from the school on 01977 691000.
