Rabbits dead after hutches are torched

Two pet rabbits burned to death after their hutches were 'deliberately' torched.

Mum Amy Clayton, 35, received a call from a neighbour after the blaze in her back garden on Duke of York Street, Wrenthorpe, at about 3.30am on Wednesday.

She was on holiday in Withernsea with her husband John and sons Jack, 11, and Oliver, six.

Amy’s mum Linda Davies, 57, of Meadow Lane, said: “They’ve gone as a family because it was their wedding anniversary on Tuesday and Oliver’s birthday on Friday. It’s spoilt everything.

“It’s a disgrace that somebody can just walk into somebody’s garden and think it’s funny to watch two rabbits burn to death.

“I just want people to know what’s happened and to be careful.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “It is believed the fire was set deliberately and police enquiries are ongoing.
