Castleford Tigers star Denny Solomona has been awarded the First Utility Super League Player of the Month for September.
The record breaking flyer scooped the final award of the season run by the league’s title sponsor, in conjunction with League Weekly, after being shortlisted alongside team-mate Luke Gale, Wigan Warriors’ John Bateman and Warrington Wolves’ Chris Hill and Stefan Ratchford.
Solomona broke Lesley Vainkolo’s single-season try-scoring record and ended the campaign by scoring eight tries in his final four appearances.
He said: “I’m delighted to pick up this award, I’d like to thank all the supporters who voted and of course, thank my team-mates, without them I wouldn’t be in a position to score.
“I’m surrounded by an incredible group of talented players and that makes my life as a winger easier and much more enjoyable!
“Thanks to First Utility for shortlisting me, any of that final five could of won this award, including my team-mate, Luke Gale.
“It was important to us as a squad that we finished the campaign in good form and having two Castleford Tigers players on the shortlist is a testament to the focus and commitment that the lads showed right until the final game of the season.”
Having returned to the southern hemisphere for his winter break, the Castleford Tigers Supporters Club accepted the award on Denny’s behalf at their ‘Rugby League Panel Debate Night’.
