A record number of cyclists took to the streets of Pontefract for the Prince of Wales Hospice’s cyclothon event last weekend.
Around 460 riders took on the event’s three routes on Sunday while families also enjoyed a new fun area set up in Pontefract Park.
Organisers expect the event to raise around £20,000 for the hospice, which costs around £2.2m every year to keep open.
Tom Cowie, hospice event fundraiser, said: “It was a great day and the weather stayed nice all day, too, which I think helped us. At the moment we are heading in the direction of raising £20,000, which we are really pleased with.”
It was the 19th cyclothon the Halfpenny Lane hospice has organised.
Forthcoming fundraising events include a sponsored golf day at Pontefract and District Golf Club on June 7 and an It’s A Knockout event on July 14.
