Residents, trading standards officers, police and councilors in Pontefract have joined forces to help stop unwanted cold callers .

A new cold calling control zone has been set up in Willow Bank Drive and Hazel Grove in Monkhill using money seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The zone has been set up by West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service after complaints from residents about the number of cold callers in the area.

Coun Clive Tennant, who represents Pontefract North, said: “These zones mean people won’t be hassled on their own doorstep to buy goods and services they just don’t want.

“The zones also help stop the number of criminals who pose as doorstep sales people and bogus utility company officials.”

The zone was launched last Wednesday when residents delivered stickers to each property.

Signs will also be placed throughout the area to warn doorstep sales people.

A representative from the Hazel Drive and Willow Bank Drive neighbourhood watch said the zone helped residents feel safer in their homes.
