RECENT weeks have been a busy – and successful – time for members of Ackworth Riding Club.
Three of the club’s teams gained places in the national finals of the Hunter Trials Championship, at a qualifying event held at Frickley, near Doncaster.
Competing against 26 clubs from across Yorkshire, the Ackworth Bohemians team of Claire Neale, Jenny Whittaker and Mary Foster finished first overall, with Claire winning the individual intermediate section prize.
The three teams will now compete in the national championships at Eland Lodge, Derbyshire, in September.
Ackworth riders also came home with plenty of rosettes from a showjumping and dressage competition held at Bishop Burton College, Beverley.
Riding in the arena which will be used as an Olympic training venue later this year, the Ackworth junior team of Jessica Beechill, Mary Foster, Elizabeth Denis and Harry Wright won their event, while the senior showjumping quartet of Alison Knox, Maggie Smith, Diane Ridgeway and Sheila Rogerson came third in their category.
Good results for individual riders Toni Ford, Maggie Smith and Diane Ridgeway mean they will represent the Yorkshire area at the Great Windsor Horse Show next month.
On a lighter note, club member Amy Campbell organised a cross-country event at Osberton, Nottinghamshire, where 98 riders took part over a 12-mile course.
Amy also turned her hand to catering, providing participants with pie and peas, quiche and home-made cupcakes.
